Sora COCORO Planet - Red
Hiromi Sato created Sora COCORO (宙 COCORO, meaning "Sky Heart" or "Cosmos Heart") using maki-e, a technique of sprinkling metallic powder onto wet lacquer to create decorative designs. Using astronomy references, Sato hand-places each constellation and celestial body with sharpened toothpicks, applying lacquer and gold powder to a stainless steel base.
The lacquer is fired in a specialized baking process, creating water-resistant, durable pieces. When filled with liquid, the cups reveal shimmering, galaxy-like patterns that evoke the vastness of the cosmos.
